For vegtables, plants or a bunch of long narrow objects gathered closely together.

"把" is often used for things scattered.

化干戈为玉帛 - huàgāngēwéiyùbó

化 - to change

干 & 戈 - two kinds of weapons from ancient times, in this idiom it is referring to the generic term "weapons"。

玉&帛 - jade articles and silk knitwear, wich dukes and princes brought with them as gifts to meetings to form alliance or as tribute to their sovreign。In this idiom they refer to gifts in general or peace。

Metaphorical meaning - Turn war into peace。

English equivalent - To turn swords into ploughshares。

This Chinese idiom often refers to two belligerent parties or two sides of a fight.

那年月, 时常有打群架的, 但是总会有朋友出头给双方调解;三五十口子打手, 经调解人东说西说,喝碗茶, 吃碗烂肉面,便都可以化干戈为玉帛了。
