今天的中文成语 - 鸡犬升天 (All dogs go to Heaven)

For all you dog lovers out there who are mad at China for killing 50,000 plus dogs. The Chinese have an idiom just for you.

鸡犬升天 - jīquan3shēngtiān

犬 - quan3 - dog
升天 - shēngtiān - to go up to Heaven to be an immortal.

Literal Meaning: Even the fowls and dogs go to Heaven. A daoist legend goes that Liu An, Prince of huainan in the Han Dynasty "(206 B.C. - 220) became an immortal after taking a certain medicine. His chickens and dogs are the leftover medicine and went to Heaven too.

Metaphorical Meaning: When someone becomes a high-ranking official, all people related to him gain ascendance as well.

这种荣妻贵, 父显子阔, 一人得道, 鸡犬升天的现象, 在封建社会里很普遍。
Zhèzhong3 róng qīguì, fùxian3zi3kuò, yī rén dédào, jīquan3shēngtiān de xiànxiàng, zài fēngjiàn shèhuì li3 hěn pu3biàn。
